  February 2011 Volume 11 Issue 2

Thanks to all of the sponsors, volunteers, and supporters who helped to make this year's Valentine's Benefit Event our most successful one ever! A special mahalo to Guy and Kim Hagi for doing such a great job as emcees and to Asa's flowers for the beautiful arrangements.

"When we focus on being normal, we exclude the possibility of being extraordinary."

HCI Graduate Ann Yoshida is leaving for South Korea this week to work as a speech pathologist for the next two years. Ann and Service Dog Echo graduated in 2003 when she was a student at the UH. Since then, she and Echo have traveled across the country as she finished graduate school and competed in wheelchair tennis and surfing competitions.

Pono's puppies arrived on February 12, the night of our big benefit event! They are Scout(boy), Sadie(girl), Star(girl), Sage(girl), and Shadow(boy). Pono and the puppies are all doing great. Their eyes and ears will open next week and they will soon be walking. Right now, its all about eating and sleeping.

Quest, Quigley, Riggins and Riley are learning all the basic commands and even a few skills they will later use to assist their partners. They are all four to five months old and already know about 30 commands.
