Fun! Food! Prizes! The Annual Charity Walk is coming up on May 14th. This is a great way to get involved and help raise funds for HCI. All donations raised by HCI participants are matched up to 100% by the Maui Hotel and Lodging Association! If you are interested in helping to collect donations, please contact Donna at 298-0167. You do not have to participate in the walk to collect pledges. If you would like to donate to HCI, please designate "Charity Walk" on your check or online donation and your gift will be matched up to 100%!
Many of you have inquired about the safety of our graduate teams in Japan. Thankfully, both teams are located south of Tokyo, so the earthquake and its aftermath have not directly affected them. Feanna and Knight are in Kyoto and Yuko and Bailey are in Shizuoka. We have also been in touch with our friends at Japan Service Dogs and the Tyler Foundation and everyone is doing well.
PONO'S PUPPIES ARE FIVE WEEKS OLD
Pono's puppies are 5 weeks old and have already started training. (Yes, they really do begin that young!) Research has shown that teaching puppies simple commands at a very young age increases their ability to learn complicated commands later on. The puppies eating soft puppy food and will be weaned over the two next weeks. Pono has been a great mom and is holding up very well! Click on the video to see their first lesson.
MAUI HUMANE SOCIETY HONORS HCI
HCI recently received the Katherine Award from the Maui Humane Society for providing valuable service to those in need. HCI Service Dog "Freedom" also received the Logan Award for showing exceptional bravery and spirit in the face of great odds. While Melanie was trapped in a house fire, Freedom brought her the cordless phone and lay with her in the smoke filled room until firemen arrived.
