Maui Brewing Company "FUNdraiser"

Thanks to our friends at Maui Brewing Company for hosting their bi-annual fundraiser on Friday, July 25th from 6 pm- 10 pm. We hope that you can join us and meet puppies in training Marshal, Emmitt, and Ipo and Assistance Dog Bella.

Meet Jake, a ten month old Golden Retriever puppy. Jake is a sweet and happy puppy who loves to learn and explore new places. Jake accompanies his puppy raisers, Toby and Cheryl Parker, to work everyday to help supervise them. During lunch Jake makes sure they visit the local green belts for exercise. Jake likes to go to movies, restaurants, Jamba Juice and especially Starbucks, where he enjoys the smell of Kona Coffee. His favorite toys are tennis balls, ice cubes, and anything that can bounce. He loves long walks with his friends, both human and canine. After puppy class, he enjoys relaxing by watching a little (supervised) pet TV before bed.

Dogs have a way of finding the people who need them, and filling an emptiness we didn't ever know we had.

Darren was the first person to graduate from our program with his Service Dog Peso 14 years ago. Darren was paralyzed in a car accident when he was in his early 20s, but has continued to live life to the fullest with a can-do attitude and a great sense of humor. Service Dog Kai has followed in Peso's footsteps.  She is Darren's devoted companion and assists him in his home and accompanies him in public. She has also become something of an art connoisseur-- serving as his "assistant" in the art studio! Darren is an internationally recognized artist and has had several shows on the west coast. Check out his original paintings and limited edition prints at his website.

Courthouse Dog Faith began work this month at the Hawaii County Prosecutor's Office. She is helping children across the Big Island who are victims or witnesses of crime as they go through the difficult legal process. Her gentle and reassuring presence helps victims to find their voice during interviews and even when testifying in court. Faith graduated from Team Training Camp with her handler, Pat Breault, an investigator and one of the many heroes at the Hawaii County Prosecutor's Office, who dedicate their lives to fighting crime and helping victims.

We enjoyed hosting Japan Service Dog Association Training Director Koto Mizukami and Breeding Manager Misaki Ito this month.  This was a great opportunity for a cross-cultural exchange of the latest training methods and breeding information. They were impressed by our campus, and of course, loved meeting all of the puppies in training!
