Congratulations New Graduates!
Congratulations to the 8 new Assistance Dogs Teams who graduated last month! We are happy to welcome the following teams to the ADH ohana! Micaela and Service Dog Inca, Ian and Service Dog Nelson, Jack and Service Dog Polo, Martin and Service Dog Captain, Queens Medical Center and Hospital Facility Dog Ipo, Doernbecher Children's Hospital and Hospital Facility Dog Hope, Oahu Children's Justice Center and Courthouse Dog Jake, and Thurston County Prosecutors Office and Courthouse Dog Marshal.
Andrew and Indy graduated from ADH in 2003 and have been best friends ever since. As Indy approaches his 14th birthday, he is still by Andrew's side, but is now retired due to hearing loss. "We love Indy so much, he's part of our family," says Andrew's mom, Paula. "He is so tuned in to Andrew and has given him so much confidence and security. Indy had humble origins, but he is a very noble dog." Andrew's family has applied for a successor dog and were recently matched with Lani, a two year old golden retriever. Lani will soon join their family and learn from Indy how to continue taking care of his best friend.
"Blessed is the man who has earned the love of an old dog"

"Paws For Reading"
With Maui's Keiki
ADH is dedicated to serving the people of Maui through our Community Outreach Programs including the Paws For Reading Program, which helps serve children at local libraries, clubs, and schools. Pictured is one of our heroes in training, Shadow, at the Wailuku Library. Shadow and her Puppy Raiser Laurie Blaine have been working with children at the Wailuku Library and the Boys and Girls Club of Maui to help make reading fun for kids and to help boost their confidence in reading not only to themselves, but to an audience as well!
Puppy of the Month - Cooper!
Cooper is an 8 month old Golden Retriever, who is quite the Casanova. Ladies love him, men want to be him, and everyone who meets Cooper leaves feeling a lot more loved. Though he can be a bit mischievous at times, his winning personality and big smile make him a favorite. Cooper is in the Basic Training Class and has recently gone on field trips to Maui Mall, Walmart, the beach, and even the airport! Cooper's skills as an Assistance Dog are improving every day and he has already learned over 40 commands! His favorite new command is "visit", where he rests his head on someone's lap, and all of us at ADH are reaping the benefits! :)
