Do
you
sail
in an
area
where
Opti
coaching
is easy
to find?
Most
of us
do not!
The
US National
Team
consists
of the
top
sailors
in the
country
and
provides
a unique
opportunity
for
these
sailors
to get
together
with
the
leading
coaches
to improve
their
competitive
skills
and
provide
focus
on their
training
program
on and
off
the
water.

US
Opti

from

around

What
many
sailors
and
parents
do not
know
is that
the
coaches
of the
USNT
spend
time
every
year
working
with
all
levels
of sailors
to help
build
the
class
at the
ground
level
and
to support
their
growth
as they
become
competitive
in the
championship
fleets
around
the
country.
The
coaches
work
together
to plan
clinics
in various
regions
around
the
country
and
focus
their
efforts
on bringing
young
sailors
out
of their
learn
to sail
programs
and
into
a "competitive
race
mindset"
in the
green
fleet
and
beyond.
Many
times,
these
regattas
focus
on a
specific
level
of sailor
but
if there
is a
larger
group
of sailors,
they
will
increase
the
number
of coaches
to provide
coverage
and
support
for
everyone
that
wants
to improve
their
sailing
on a
racecourse.
These
clinics
sometimes
coincide
with
a regional
regatta
or event
but
many
of them
are
simply
scheduled
because
a club
or group
of parents
just
want
the
opportunity
for
a "different"
perspective
on competitive
Opti
sailing.
The
coaches
provide
exposure
for
all
sailors
into
the
type
of training
that
all
young
sailors
should
be focusing
on,
from
land
drills,
to a
fitness
program
to nutrition
and
obviously
drills
on the
water
to improve
your
sailing
skills
and
competitive
tactics.
If
you
are
interested
in hosting
a clinic,
many
of the
top
US Optimist
coaches
are
available
to come
and
help
your
local
sailors
fall
in love
with
competitive
Optimist
sailing!
In
fact,
several
of these
coaches
are
currently
working
to coordinate
medium
to large
groups
in areas
of the
country
that
do not
typically
have
events
like
this,
and
are
looking
for
venues
and
parent
coordinators
to help
get
a few
of these
planned
this
summer.
If
you
are
interested
in learning
more,
feel
free
to call
Dave
Hein
and
he will
direct
you
to some
of the
coaches
that
are
working
on these
regional
clinics.
Don't
assume
that
your
sailor
is "not
at that
level"
or is
not
ready
to work
with
a top
level
coach.
These
pros
regularly
work
with
sailors
that
are
getting
into
the
boat
for
their
first
time
and
find
that
the
earlier
they
can
help
get
the
basic
skills
ingrained
in your
sailors
routine,
the
quicker
they
will
develop
into
life-long
competitive
sailors
that
enjoy
every
day
on the
water!
