I do not remember exactly when I started doing it.
I know it was while I was still living with my parents. I moved away from home in 1991, this means I have done it for at least 18 years.
I am talking about writing in a journal.
Regardless who you are and what you do, writing in a journal is a hallmark of high performers. For example, writing in a journal is recommended in a very fascinating book called "The Greatness Guide" by Robin Sharma (www.robinsharma.com)
You might be an athlete recording your training, a salesperson recording new ideas or a mother writing about feelings of motherhood.
We all can benefit tremendously from writing in a journal - and it does not have to be strictly on a daily basis.
I am sure that some of you already write in a journal. For those of you who might be unfamiliar with writing in a journal, here is how I do it myself. These tips might ressonate with you or at least inspire you to find your own way of writing in a journal.
I have a journal for work and a journal for my private thoughts. The work journal is always open on my desk next to my computer. In it I write:
- new programs and exercise ideas.
- questions that I can't answer in the moment, but want to get back to later.
- experiences I learn from during the day.
- notes I take when I read books.
- brainstorming for articles I may write.
I write in my journal for private thoughts most mornings and evenings:
- I write down my goals.
- If there are situations that stress me I write them down and try to figure out exactly why. Sometimes I will use a technique called "The Work" (highly recommended! - check www.thework.com)
- I will sometimes write down questions generated from imagining having a conversation with a very wise person.
- I write the things during my day that I am grateful for (another highly recommended technique)
Writing in my journals keeps me on track and helps me learn and grow in the various areas of my life. Some days I do not have time to write or I do not bother, but I love those journals so much, that I quickly return to them - even if it is only for a minute or two.
I recently included a third journal in my weekly habits. It's a blog that I write in a couple of times per week. You can check it out by clicking here.

PS: Have FUN training on the RUN does not require that you keep a journal. It is about stayining healthy without the use of scheduled workouts. Check it out by clicking here.
PPS: Besides being for sale on our own products page "The Magnificent 35" also sells from www.muscledrivethru.com. A fine site that also features other excellent material.
