Why you have failed "trying to lose fat" in the past and - most likely - will continue to do so in the future.

I have stated clearly on the service section at yestostrength.com, that I am not an expert in fatloss. That may be a bad buisness strategy, because all around me I hear that "fatloss" is what clients want. And if "fatloss" is what clients want that is what we - as trainers - should help them with, right?

The problem with this though - and I might be too blunt here - is that fatloss is a "bad goal" and it is not what we REALLY WANT.

If your goal is "trying to lose fat" you are violating two fundamental laws of goal setting. First, as Yoda says in Start Wars, "There is no trying - either you do or you don't".

I think you can see that even though "trying" can be very admirable, the statement is completely true. Just think of the action of opening a door. We can think that we "try" to open it, but the reality is, that either we open it or we don't.

BTW, Wayne W. Dyer, the famous author of many self-development books, agrees with Yoda in the above statement - you can find it in one of his books.

The second rule you are violating if you "try to lose fat" is that you state your goal - and focus on - something you DO NOT want. And as you might know, what you focus on is what grows and manifests in your life.

But even more importantly - and I will take the liberty to claim that this is true - fatloss is not WHAT YOU REALLY WANT.

Ask anyone who has lost fat due to a disease, if fatloss in itself makes you happy. The answer is obvious, is it not?

I am quite sure that what you REALLY want are the FEELINGS you mentally connect to the fatloss. Those feelings might include:

  • being able to look at your naked body and feeling good.
  • feeling attractive.
  • feeling high levels of energy during the day.
  • being able to accomplish various physical tasks with ease.

Am I right?

This is step 1 to achieve success: STOP FOCUSING ON FATLOSS AND START FOCUSING ON LIVING THE FEELINGS THAT YOU ARE REALLY AFTER.

The beauty of this is that you will feel better immediately! For example, do this tough but effective exercise:

  • Stand naked in front of a whole body mirror. Notice your feelings without judgement.
  • Now ask yourself: "How would I like to feel looking at my naked body?" It might be a bit difficult to create those feelings, but play with it and have FUN.
  • Another question you could ask is: "How would I feel having the body of my dreams?"

You are using the power of questions to guide your focus and feelings. And as you start to feel better, immediately this will empower you to follow up this mental game with ACTION:

  • Start noticing your feelings as you buy, prepare and eat food. Just observe your choice of food and what you feel.
  • Do not judge.
  • There is no right or wrong.

Doing so will take away feelings of guilt ("I should not be eating this") and it will activate your inner wisdom. You will gradually start eating what makes you healthy and happy.

There are other steps you could take, including exercise, that will accelerate the process towards feeling happy and good in your naked body.
