How to Reduce Unconscious Performance Deficit.

Even at the highest level of competition, cool down activities are often compromised due to “lack of time” (1).
 
Most of us have many things we want to do in our daily lives and activities that don’t seem to have an immediate relevance or benefit are discarded.

Further, most of us believe that we have to ACT to make things happen. As a result, cool down activities are perceived as “doing nothing” and hence (sub)consciously we attach low value to such activity.

Charles Staley, strength and conditioning coach from the USA, stated that most athletes/fitness enthusiasts are “addicted to fatigue, more than to results” (2). I find this to be true. The mindset of addiction to fatigue causes a lack of value attached to proper cool down.

I will go out on a limb and claim that most trainees, at ANY level, have what could be called an “unconscious performance deficit”.
