The City of Burlington's Official Plan Review: Get Involved this September!
August 30, 2013
This update includes information about upcoming events related to the Mobility Hubs Opportunities & Constraints Study; the Commercial Strategy Study and a Telephone Town Hall to discuss the links between land use, transportation and transit.
Join us for a hands-on workshop: Mobility Hubs Opportunities & Constraints
Mobility Hubs are more than just a transit station. They are places of connectivity where different modes of transportation - from walking to cycling to commuter rail - come together seamlessly and where there is an intensive concentration of places to live, work, shop and play. Successful mobility hubs have the potential to become vibrant places of activity over time.
The City of Burlington, as part of the Official Plan Review, is doing a mobility hub opportunity & constraint study. The purpose of this study is to set a high level vision and guiding design principles for the city's two mobility hubs (Burlington GO and Downtown Burlington) and the two major transit station areas (Appleby GO and Aldershot GO), as well as the corridors that connect them.

Commercial Strategy Study:
Transforming Commercial Areas in Burlington
The City is undertaking a Commercial Strategy Study through the Official Plan Review with the assistance of urbanMetrics inc. and The Planning Partnership. The study is intended to confirm the City's commercial land use vision and to make sure that the commercial policies of the Official Plan address Strategic Plan directions.
As part of the study, we continue to gather input in a number of different ways. To build on the previous workshops, surveys and the online forum, the project team has now scheduled two targeted stakeholder meetings both on September 12, 2013 (City-wide and Downtown).
If you would like more information about these opportunities, please contact Mr. Hugo Rincon, Ph.D, Planner - Policy, City of Burlington at 905-335-7600 ext. 7418 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
For more information about the study, visit the Commercial Study webpage.
Telephone Town Hall: Land Use, Transportation and Transit
Mayor Rick Goldring will be hosting a live, interactive telephone town hall meeting on the evening of September 26th. The session will be accessible to participants via phone from the comfort of their homes. The evening will provide an opportunity to learn more about our city and how making smart decisions about land use, transportation and public transit will help us to build a more complete community.
If you're interested in participating, please contact Helen Walihura, Communications Advisor, City of Burlington at 905-335-7600 ext. 7483 or email@example.com.
