Fractional: Faster and Better Skin Rejuvenation
The next generation of skin rejuvenation is here! It’s called fractional technology, and it provides faster and better results than ever before.
Here’s how it works: while non-fractional lasers deliver energy uniformly to both healthy and unhealthy tissue, fractional lasers direct energy exclusively to a “fraction” of the area – the damaged sections - while leaving healthy, surrounding tissue untouched. These untreated zones help dissipate energy so that treated areas heal faster; they also make it possible to use greater energy on targeted areas, for better results.
Fractional skin rejuvenation is ideal for treating the face, but because it’s so gentle, it can also be used on more delicate areas such as the neck, chest, arms and hands.
After two or three fractional laser treatments, most people achieve the results they desire. Fine lines and wrinkles are diminished, skin feels softer and smoother, acne scars fade and pore size has been reduced.

Is Your Neck Aging Faster Than Your Face?
Many women take excellent care of their face, only for their neck and upper chest, also known as the decollate, to reveal their true age.
Aside from hiding under turtleneck sweaters, there hasn’t been much help for these areas until recently. That’s because the skin on the neck and decollate is thinner and more sensitive than on the face, so many of the high-tech treatments that keep the face fresh can’t be used elsewhere.
Now, a new technique provides gentle rejuvenation of the neck and decollate, to smooth, firm and even skin tone.
Fractional skin rejuvenation can be used to deliver tiny dots of laser energy into the delicate skin of the neck and decollate to stimulate collagen regeneration and restore a youthful appearance to this important part of the body.
As new collagen is gradually created in the treated area, skin texture and quality improves: skin tone becomes more even; fine lines begin to soften; and firmness is restored to sagging skin.
Benefits are seen after the first treatment, although the most significant improvements appear over the course of several sessions.

QuickLift Quickly Erases Five Years
Featured on more than a dozen news programs across the U.S., the new QuickLiftTM is rapidly becoming the procedure of choice for men and women who want to erase five or more years within a weekend.
The technique was developed in 2004 by Dominic Brandy, MD, and is performed by doctors who have been personally trained by him. It provides an overall lift to the lower region of the face and upper neck, and is particularly well suited for men and women between the ages of 40 and 65. At this age, most people lose elasticity in their skin and develop varying degrees of laxity along the jaw and neck.
Although the QuickLift is based upon the traditional S-Lift, incisions are smaller so healing time is much faster and results can be seen almost immediately. This simplicity also makes QuickLift more affordable than a full facelift. Because many patients schedule the procedure for Friday then return to work on Monday or Tuesday, the QuickLift has been called the “weekend facelift”.

Sunscreen vs. Sunblock
Sunscreen does more than protect the skin from cancer caused by ultraviolet light. It also helps prevent the sagging and wrinkling that can result from sun exposure.
But all sun protection products aren’t created equally. Although “sunscreen” is a universal term that is now used for all sun-protection lotions, the active ingredients in sun protection products can be divided into two categories: chemical and physical.
Chemical sunscreens contain special ingredients that act as filters to reduce the penetration of ultraviolet radiation into the skin. These sunscreens are often colorless and maintain a thin film on the surface on the skin. They usually contain UVB absorbing chemicals, and more recently, UVA absorbing chemicals as well.
Physical sunscreens, also referred to as sunblocks, contain ingredients which create a physical barrier to block ultraviolet radiation from entering the skin. Unlike their chemical counterparts, these physical ingredients provide broad protection against both UVB and UVA rays, so they tend to offer greater protection. In the past, many people found them cosmetically unacceptable because they left a thick, white layer on the skin that did not wash off easily. Today, however, micronized formulations provide the same amount of protection without the added mess.
Afterglow Skin + Laser Centre offers several excellent sunscreens. For more information about products that would be right for you, please click here to contact us.
