Latisse: The Easy Way to Lovely Lashes

Thinning eyelashes are a common problem and can occur as a result of various allergies, usage of certain eye makeup, as a side effect of different medications or conditions, in response to exposure to toxins, after eye surgery, and from nutritional deficiencies. The most common culprit is often age, as hair on many parts of the body starts to lose its fullness and luster.

Mascara and false eyelashes can provide the illusion of volume, but both of these solutions are temporary.

Now there’s a way to improve the quality of the eyelashes themselves.

Pierre Skin Care Institute now offers Latisse, a new treatment from the makers of Botox that has been FDA approved to stimulate eyelash growth. In fact, while several other eyelash products are available, only Latisse is FDA-approved to promote the growth of eyelashes.

In clinical trials, users experienced longer, fuller and darker eyelashes in as little as eight weeks, with full results appearing within 16 weeks. A once-daily prescription treatment, Latisse is applied to the base of the upper eyelashes with a sterile, single-use-per-eye disposable applicator.

Although Latisse was just introduced for eyelash growth early this year, its active ingredient has a long history of use. In 2001, bimatoprost ophthalmic solution was approved in the U. S. for the reduction of elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Its long-term safety was studied in 32 clinical trials involving more than 5,700 patients conducted over 13 years. During that time, eyelash growth was observed as a side effect of treatment, leading to the further study and eventual introduction of Latisse.

Chemical Peels Quickly Smooth Lines, Texture & Tone

Chemical peels are a well established way to smooth fine lines on the face, and even skin tone and texture.

Like other skin rejuvenation technologies, peels produce a controlled injury to the skin. This initiates a wound healing process that regenerates the epidermis. The initial response is coagulation and inflammation. As this occurs, clotting factors are activated and re-epithelialization begins to generate new tissue. Endothelial cells then migrate to the treated area and continue the healing process. Finally, collagen reorients in a parallel fashion, giving the skin softness and resiliency.

The result is diminished lines and wrinkles as well as a reduction in pigmentation irregularities, superficial scarring, and acne.

In general, the deeper the peel, the more profound the result. Superficial peels, which exfoliate only the uppermost layers of the skin, may be used on the face as well as the thinner skin of the neck, chest and hands.  Medium-strength peels are used only on the face.  They penetrate into the dermis and thus can address deeper wrinkles.

Many people find that superficial peels once every month or two will keep them looking their best, although some prefer deeper peels once or twice a year.

New TNS Essential Serum is Here!

Pierre Skin Care Institute is pleased to announce the arrival of an exciting new product from skin care specialist Skin Medica: TNS Essential Serum.

Designed to enhance professional procedures and extend their duration of results, TNS Essential Serum combines two proven treatments into one. The product contains both TNS Recovery Complex, a patented blend of growth factors, soluble collagen, antioxidants and matrix proteins that rejuvenates sun damaged and aging skin; and APS Corrective Complex, a mixture of three novel peptides and seven antioxidants designed to correct skin damage. The two products work in combination to regenerate skin for a more youthful appearance.

In a recent clinical study, 37 women aged 32-55 with mild-to-severe wrinkling used TNS Essential Serum twice-daily for three months. Of those, 97% saw improvements in the elasticity of their skin and 92% said their skin was looking healthier and more youthful. Other benefits include reduction of roughness and wrinkles, and an increase in skin radiance.

TNS Essential Serum is only available through selected physicians and is priced at $250 for a one ounce supply.

Radiesse Offers Longer Lasting Results

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Radiesse, a next-generation cosmetic dermal filler, for the long-lasting correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles. Unlike other fillers that last just a few months, Radiesse has been shown to last one year or more.

These results are possible because Radiesse is the first filler that contains calcium-based microspheres. This technology not only provides volume replacement to wrinkles and folds but also stimulates the body to produce new collagen. This unique action restores the fullness and contours of a youthful, healthy appearance.

Studies evaluating Radiesse were conducted at four different medical centers. In these studies, 117 women were treated; half of their face was treated with Radiesse and the other half was treated with collagen. Six months after treatment, 82% of patients experienced an improvement in wrinkles around the mouth and nose (nasolabial folds) with Radiesse. In 95% of the women, results from Radiesse were superior to those from collagen.

Radiesse can also be used to create cheekbones and enhance the contours of the face.
