Refine Dermatique is under the medical direction of Dr. Barry LaBine.  He is a board certified dermatologist and brings more than 14 years of specialty skin care expertise to the Twin Cities and Albertville area.

Dr. Barry LaBine has practiced at the region's largest healthcare system for more than a decade. He is well respected by his peers and is known for exceptional patient care.

He received a doctorate in medicine from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, and completed his residency at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, among the most respected hospitals in the nation. Dr. LaBine is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery.

 Joanie Mahon joined the Refine team as a Licensed Medical Aesthetician in April 2008.  She received her Aesthetic training from RidgewaterCollege in Willmar, MN.  She possesses a strong foundation in the physical sciences from St. CloudStateUniversity in St. Cloud, MN and the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, MN, as well as advanced training in chemical peels, cosmeceuticals, mineral makeup and laser treatment.

Refine Dermatique welcomes two new staff members

Anne Morrison joined our team in April as a medical aesthetician.  Anne received her training from Scot Lewis, Empire Schools and brings a strong customer service background. 

Paula Aman joined the Refine team in September as a physician assistant.  Paula received her training from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. She has an extensive aesthetic background including Botox, and dermal filler injections.

More than 20,000 physicians and medspas throughout the U.S. now offer aesthetic services like Botox – but few are true experts in aesthetics. That’s important, because skill and expertise often make the difference between results that are excellent and those that are merely acceptable or even unsatisfactory.

Dermal fillers like Restylane, for example, must be injected at precisely the right location, angle and depth. They must also be delivered in the right amount. If too little material is injected, or if it is not targeted to the right area, the full degree of correction won’t be achieved. Injection technique is especially important with newer fillers like Juvederm, Radiesse and Sculptra. Each of these requires a different protocol that can be difficult to master.

Many medspas have less experience so they must learn as they go. A large number are also owned by business people, instead of physicians, so they aren’t able to fully understand the medical aspects of the treatments they offer.

The next generation of skin rejuvenation is here!  It’s called ProFractional, and it provides faster and better results than ever before. Introduced in early 2007, this procedure repairs damaged skin by softening fine lines & wrinkles, minimizing pore size, smoothing skin tone & texture and fading acne scars. It can also help rebuild collagen to firm the skin.

ProFractional represents an improvement over fractional skin rejuvenation, which debuted in 2004.  While non-fractional lasers deliver energy uniformly to both healthy and unhealthy tissue, fractional devices direct energy exclusively to a “fraction” of the area – the damaged sections - while leaving healthy, surrounding tissue untouched. These untreated zones help dissipate energy so that treated areas heal faster; they also make it possible to use greater energy on targeted areas, for better results.

However, the heating effects from older fractional systems could be difficult to control. This often caused discomfort during treatment.
