Paula graduated with honors from ConcordiaCollege prior to completing her Physician Assistant training at the University of Wisconsin. After becoming board certified as a Physician Assistant, she completed her Master's Degree in Physician Assistant studies at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. She has over 13 years of clinical experience and is a nationally and state certified Physician Assistant.

| Injectables Quickly Erase Wrinkles |
One of the easiest ways to turn back the years is by erasing wrinkles. There’s no simpler way to do this than with injectables like Botox and dermal fillers.
FDA-approved to reduce facial lines and wrinkles, Botox Cosmetic is a neuromodulator used to soften dynamic lines. These are wrinkles that form in areas where the muscles expand and contract, such as in the browline. Once injected into the muscle, Botox blocks the release of the chemical transmitter acetylcholine, gently putting the muscle to rest and preventing the formation of dynamic wrinkles in this area.
Dermal fillers are used to smooth away static wrinkles. These wrinkles are already etched into the skin, without any muscle action. | Breakthrough Technology Tightens the Skin |
Skin laxity is a common effect of aging, and typically begins between the ages of 30 and 40. It occurs when skin loses elasticity and begins to droop or sag. Until recently, there were few solutions to this problem. However, a breakthrough new technology called SkinTyte is now able to effectively reverse this effect and tighten the skin.
Introduced in 2007, SkinTyte is a broadband intense pulsed light source that was recently cleared to market for reduction of wrinkles. The device emits light that stimulates collagen production in the skin, which in turn, results in firmer skin with fewer wrinkles.
Depending upon the degree of improvement desired, between three and five treatments are usually necessary. Over time, skin condition continues to improve as the old collagen realigns and the body produces newer, stronger and more elastic collagen. In clinical studies, results from SkinTyte were shown to last up to a year. Follow up treatments can then be performed to maintain results.
Loose skin on the abdomen, back of the upper arm, along the jaw line and under the chin responds particularly well to the SkinTyte procedure. Persons of all skin types, including those with tanned skin, can be treated.

| Sclerotherapy Effectively Removes Spider Veins |
Spider veins are an embarassing problem that affects more than 50 million people in the United States. They can occur on the face or body, and are specially common among people who are overweight, pregnant, or have an occupation that requires long periods of standing. Spider veins also occur more frequently with age and can be painful.
The thin, discolored veins are the result of faulty valves in the blood vessels and weakened vessel walls. Normally, the one-way valves in these veins keep blood flowing toward the heart. When these valves do not function properly, blood pools, pressure builds up, and the veins become discolored.
Sclerotherapy, however, is an established medical procedure that can restore proper blood flow and eradicate malfunctioning veins. This technique requires injection of a special chemical (sclerosant) into a spider vein to damage and scar the inside lining of the vein, thereby causing the vein to close.
During this procedure, the affected leg is elevated to drain blood, and the sclerosant is injected into the spider vein. The procedure takes 5 to 30 minutes, depending on how many veins are treated and how large they are.
After the injection of sclerosant, pressure is applied over the treated veins to prevent blood return during standing. This is accomplished thru the usage of compression stockings or elastic bandages for several days or weeks following treatment. More than one treatment may be required for very large veins.
