Marnie Quoted in the LA Times
This past week PARSA was invited to participate in the Inauguration of Afghanistan's first National Park. The park is located in an area called Band e Amir which is North of Bamyan and is comprised of five of the most beautiful lakes in the world.
PARSA was asked to provide a booth of goods to sell to the visiting dignitaries at the event. These folks included the US Ambassador, Ken Eikenberry and his wife, the Vice President of Afghanistan, Karim Khalili and the Governor of Bamyan.
While sales were good, it was very special for PARSA to be chosen to be the only supplier of goods for sale. We brought a number of items from the PARSA gift shop, including table linens, scarves, Afghan clothing, Afghan dolls - all items hand made by the women of Afghanistan. Our gift shop provides women with a means of earning income to help support their families. The shop is a going concern and sets up at a number of bazaars to sell goods in Kabul and has small shops in other areas of the country.
We have attached al link to the article from the LATimes for anyone interested in reading more about the Band e Amir area and Marnie's quotes.
ASI Golf Tournament - A GREAT Success!!
Golf in Kabul is a rather unique experience.
As many may already know- (We apologize for the computer glitch which caused sort original newsletter to be sent out a second time without our knowledge), PARSA was one of two beneficiaries of the Adam Smith International Golf Tournament at the end of May. We all had a great time watching the courageous group of duffers navigate the course.
PARSA received over $2,300 from the Tournament Sponsors and also gained greater recognition within the International community here in Kabul. We all made new friends and contacts and were delighted with the support from the local community.
Thanks to EVERYONE from Kabul as well as from our International friends who donated to PARSA as a result of the Golf tournament as well as a BIG Thank you to the players and to Adam Smith International for hosting the GREAT event.
