Need Volunteers for Afghan Scouts
PARSA has over 80 Afghan Scouts in two orphanages. We plan to have all children in the orphanages in a Scout program. This is a special program as children's families cannot support them. We are organizing volunteers to work with the children. We are also looking for Scout Troop sponsors. It costs $2500 per 20 child troop a year. Please contact us if you are interested!
PARSA Puppy Adoption Program
Please let everyone know that we have a special adoption program for Afghan families who want healthy, social dogs that are useful for the family. It is March 1st, and a couple days after another Kabul bombing. I can hear Dawn, my PARSA co-manager's voiced raised from PARSA Finance through the thick walls of our offices. Her 25 "cash pockets" are in disarray because her young staff has forgotten procedure. Sound familiar? This is not a personal issue nor a fashion problem but life as we know it running an organization in Kabul these days. Punctuated by terrorist attacks which minimally rearranges everyone's scheduled meetings-getting anything done here is very stressful. PARSA has benefitted from learning a very unique program called"Focusing" adapted by Dr.Patrica Omidian, which is a peer based counseling program. Our staff has been training intensively in this method and I have decided it is time to make it available to the expat community. Actually way past due. It is a very safe, simple but effective way of getting centered, working out problems, and getting support. The method does not involve divulging personal information. It is more of a meditation practice with insight. We are going to start some "focusing" groups. If you are interested in learning more about "focusing" or participating please email me or call me at 00799020588. If you want to learn what "cash pockets" are please email Dawn Erickson at derickson_afa@yahoo.com.

PARSA welcomes the New Orphanage Director

PARSA Animal Clinic and Healthy Afghan Communities
PARSA has programs that are part of our Healthy Afghan Community Program series that are designed to assist Afghan’s to build a healthy community environment. Our Animal Welfare Project which teaches Afghan’s to care for their animals in a humane manner to reduce disease and danger in their communities.
Dr. Zack (right) is head of PARSA's new Community Animal Welfare program, located at Marastoon. We are building a small clinic to help serve Kabul's small animal population and to demonstrate ways of conducting animal control other than poisoning them or abusing them. We offer limited clinical services this month but Dr. Zack, trained in Russia, can come to your location to vaccinate, treat and educate. "PARSA puppies" is a program to educate Afghan families on how to successfully adopt and care for a dog.If you need clinical services please call Dr. Zack directly at: 0799146362. We need volunteers to help train puppies on Fridays and Saturdays. Please call or e-mail Marnie -0799020588 or mgustav@mac.com. Any assistance welcome! All funding and support goes to build this community based clinic and to offer Afghan's low cost healthcare for their animals.
Psychosocial Training for Teachers at Kabul University
January 2010, PARSA graduated our first psychosocial "teach the teachers" class at Kabul University. Taught in tandem with our "Healthy Afghan Child" program in Kabul schools the students in this course participated in 175 hours of curriculum-60 hours were spent in the schools working with children and teachers. Training included basic skills of diagnosis of disabilities or behavioral problems and intervention strategies, learning "focusing" a therapeutic method adapted for Afghan culture. Twenty five fourth year students successfully completed the course. We have hired five at PARSA and we are very pleased with their enthusiasm, dedication and basic skill level. If you are interested in interviewing one of our program graduates or in learning more about this program please contact Yasin Farid at yasinfarid@gmail.com or 0700284286.
