Data Collection Procedures:
Elite Email researchers reviewed the 2012 top fifty point earners of the NHL (note: the list is based on goals and assists only). The most popular social networks were reviewed for each player: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. The team began seeking out ‘verified’ profiles. No verified profiles were found for these players on Facebook. Instagram does not verify profiles, so these were not included. Therefore, the chart was built based on Twitter data only. There were countless fake profiles/general fan pages but only verified pages were used in collecting this data to ensure authenticity. The chart is based on “followers” only to measure ‘social reach’. ‘Social activity’ such as frequency of posting or the most recent post date was not reviewed.
