Rural Summit

On January 19, the City hosted the Rural Summit at Kilbride Public School, as part of Burlington's Official Plan Review. We are happy to report that over 125 people attended the event. If you attended the Summit, please follow this link to fill out a feedback form.

The day involved discussions related to a collective community vision for the Rural Area and themes that would support the vision. The event offered an opportunity for participants to engage in conversations with each other and a diversity of opinions emerged. The key themes were:

  • Agriculture/natural resources
  • Sustainable growth
  • Transportation
  • Community Cohesiveness
  • Tourism / Ecotourism
  • History and Preservation
  • Education
  • Governance

Draft Summary Report

A draft summary report prepared by the facilitators for the Rural Summit has been posted on the Official Plan Review website. If you attended the Rural Summit we would like to request that you review the draft summary report and let us know:

Did we correctly document your input? What should we make sure is included?

Please review the draft summary report and let us know by Tuesday, March 5, 2013 if you would like any information to be included or modified. All comments will be considered in the finalization of the document.

Next Steps

The finalized Rural Summit summary report will be presented to City Council in March/April 2013. Following that, a Rural Area Directions Report will be brought forward in Summer/Fall 2013. The Directions Report will present the findings of research and consultation and will recommend directions for Rural Area policy.
