The City of Burlington's Official Plan Review: Employment Lands Consultation, Character Area Study and Mayor's Speaker Series

This update includes information about the recent Employment Lands Consultation, updated information for the Character Area Study for Indian Point and Roseland and the upcoming Mayor's Inspire Burlington Speaker Series event titled "Health and the Built Environment" featuring Dr. David Mowat.


Employment Lands Stakeholder Consultation

On March 19 the City invited targeted stakeholders to attend a meeting to share the findings of the Employment Lands Study Draft Phase 2 Report.  Representatives from Dillon Consulting Ltd., and Watson & Associates Economists Ltd., presented the context, study findings and recommendations from the Employment Lands Study Draft Phase 2 Report as well as the Draft Employment Lands Conversion Policies.  The presentation is available on the Official Plan Review website

Discussion from the session will be compiled and considered as part of the Official Plan Review.  Further comments are welcome and appreciated.  The Comment Sheet is available online and includes questions for discussion and space for general comments.  Please forward your completed comment sheet to the contact below.

Character Area Study for Indian Point and Roseland

As part of the Official Plan Review, the City has retained Brook McIlroy to initiate a study to identify and define the character of the Indian Point and Roseland neighbourhods and to develop recommendations for tools to manage neighbourhood change. 

The Character Area Study involves a series of three workshops for each neighbourhood.  The first workshop for the Indian Point neighbourhood was held on April 2, 2013 and was attended by 24 members of the public.  The first workshop for Roseland and the second workshop for Indian Point have now been scheduled.  For more information visit the Character Area Study webpage.

First Roseland Public Meeting: May 1, 2013; 6:30 pm; Roseland Park Country Club.

NEW Second Indian Point Public Meeting:  June 5, 2013; 6:30 pm; Burlington Arts Centre - 1333 Lakeshore Road - Shoreline Room.

Mayor's Inspire Burlington Series

Dr. David Mowat on "Health and the Built Environment"

The Official Plan Review team is pleased to be collaborating with the Mayor's Office to present the upcoming Inspire Burlington event, featuring Dr. David Mowat, the Medical Officer of Health for the Region of Peel.  In his role, Dr. Mowat is responsible for protecting and promoting the health of the 1.3 million residents of Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga.  Join us next week when Dr. Mowat will share his thoughts on the connection between public health and urban planning.
