Important WellCare Reminder

As previously announced, CMS has imposed a temporary suspension of WellCare marketing and enrollment activities. At this time, producers are reminded that they cannot conduct any Medicare marketing, sales or enrollment activities on behalf of WellCare.

Marketing, Sales or Enrollment Activities include the following:

·         Presenting WellCare products to prospective members

    • In person
    • Telephone marketing
    • Internet marketing
    • US Mail letters and/or brochures
    • Email letters and/or brochures
    • Advertisements
    • Marketing flyers

·         If any of the above marketing materials are available to the public, please remove them immediately.  Failure to do so will be cause for contract termination.

It is important to note that producers are encouraged to continue to assist their own WellCare clients as needed to ensure members continue to receive access to quality health care coverage.

Currently, WellCare is working closely with CMS to review steps we have implemented to resolve these issues going forward.  As developments occur, they will be communicated to the producer community.  In the meantime, thank you for your commitment to the beneficiaries we serve.

CMS Clarifies Criteria For Initial Compensation Qualifiers

As a result of feedback from Medicare Advantage Plans with respect to information included in CMS' June 5th memo that discussed criteria for paying initial (1st year, 2 X payment) compensation fees in 2009, CMS issued the following clarification memo on June 26, 2009:

"Independent producers enrolling beneficiaries with Original Medicare and a PDP into an MA plan or MA-PD, and vice versa, should be paid an initial compensation for any such enrollments with effective dates in 2009."

We are pleased with this clarification, and are waiting  for  updated and corrected  reports from CMS  so we can  pay out this commission.  We are committed to distributing these  commissions to producers as soon as possible , and we are currently working with our Commission Team to ensure we are ready to process these payments to be included in the month-end check run immediately following the CMS release of updated reports.

Thank you for your continued patience.

WellCare To Launch Training Program Soon!

It's summer and WellCare is already preparing the training curriculum for the 2010 AEP season.  Training will consist of both online training modules and live classroom workshops and it will focus more on practical day-to-day application of the new MIPPA rules.

The new training program is carefully being designed to provide producers valuable information on how to market and sell Medicare Advantage products in the most compliant manner.  More information will follow in the coming weeks.
