In the email marketing solutions game, knowing the facts about spam will help you avoid dreaded email purgatory – the junk folder.

Email marketing industry research has compiled various "not-so-comforting" facts about spam. Knowing these facts can help you to keep your emails in the in-box and in all honesty scare you into working hard to maintain a high quality contact list. After all, the harder you work at maintaining your contact list the better you will do as an email marketer.

Just so you understand why email marketing solutions security has raised so significantly in the last little while, take a look at the following numbers: The average user receives 21 spam messages to their inbox every day (not even mentioning the tons more that stuffs the junk folder); 13 billion spam emails are sent everyday; the average amount of spam emails any given user will receive in a year is approximately 3000.

So what? Who cares if we get spam, that's what the spam button is for right?
True, but where it really affects us is in the corporate world. Although email marketing is great for getting your messages out to 'Mrs. and Mister average-Joe-user', email marketing can be most effective when targeting other corporations or businesses.

These are the cold hard facts(compiled by experts in the industry) that corporations are facing: 90% of all emails that corporations receive are spam; each employee spends 4-5 seconds per spam email, on average. This translates to a minimum of 16 seconds wasted identifying and deleting spam emails (best case scenario), which, in turn, results in $70 billion in production time lost to U.S. businesses.

With these kinds of statistics, wouldn't you want to increase security to stop spammers? That's why it's so important that you are well informed on how to avoid spam filters and on the importance of putting the effort in to ensure that you are constantly doing up-keep on you contact list. This will ensure it is high quality, giving you a better chance of getting to the inbox and keeping your reputation top-notch.

What's worse is that 81% of all email marketers are unfamiliar with the CAN-SPAM Act! That means MOST of your fellow email marketers are making things worse for everyone else. Keep in mind, anyone using email marketing solutions to send out campaigns that receives 0.5% or higher of their total sending as spam complaints will suffer serious deliverability issues; an even greater reason to make that extra effort to maintain a high quality contact list.

Knowing what American businesses are dealing with should scare you/motivate you into putting in that little bit of extra elbow grease to be informed about email marketing solutions best practices.
